Unified framework for diffusion generative models in SO(3): applications in computer vision and astrophysics

no code implementations18 Dec 2023 Yesukhei Jagvaral, Francois Lanusse, Rachel Mandelbaum

In this work, we develop extensions of both score-based generative models (SGMs) and Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Models (DDPMs) to the Lie group of 3D rotations, SO(3).

Estimating redshift distributions using Hierarchical Logistic Gaussian processes

Using published galaxy-dark matter bias measurements from the Illustris simulation, we compare these systematic biases with the statistical error budget from a forecasted weak gravitational lensing measurement.

CMU DeepLens: Deep Learning For Automatic Image-based Galaxy-Galaxy Strong Lens Finding

1 code implementation8 Mar 2017 Francois Lanusse, Quanbin Ma, Nan Li, Thomas E. Collett, Chun-Liang Li, Siamak Ravanbakhsh, Rachel Mandelbaum, Barnabas Poczos

We find on our simulated data set that for a rejection rate of non-lenses of 99%, a completeness of 90% can be achieved for lenses with Einstein radii larger than 1. 4" and S/N larger than 20 on individual $g$-band LSST exposures.

The WiggleZ Dark Energy Survey: Direct constraints on blue galaxy intrinsic alignments at intermediate redshifts

1 code implementation27 Nov 2009 Rachel Mandelbaum, Chris Blake, Sarah Bridle, Filipe B. Abdalla, Sarah Brough, Matthew Colless, Warrick Couch, Scott Croom, Tamara Davis, Michael J. Drinkwater, Karl Forster, Karl Glazebrook, Ben Jelliffe, Russell J. Jurek, I-hui Li, Barry Madore, Chris Martin, Kevin Pimbblet, Gregory B. Poole, Michael Pracy, Rob Sharp, Emily Wisnioski, David Woods, Ted Wyder

Our null detection allows us to place upper limits on the contamination of weak lensing measurements by blue galaxy intrinsic alignments that, for the first time, do not require significant model-dependent extrapolation from the z~0. 1 SDSS observations.

About 90\% of the observing time will be devoted to a deep-wide-fast survey mode which will uniformly observe a 18, 000 deg$^2$ region about 800 times (summed over all six bands) during the anticipated 10 years of operations, and yield a coadded map to $r\sim27. 5$.
