We show that if masses and radii of a proto-neutron star can be determined in the first second after the birth, e. g. from gravitational wave emission, no information could be obtained on the corresponding cold neutron star and therefore on the cold nuclear equation of state.

We conjecture and verify a set of universal relations between global parameters of hot and fast-rotating compact stars, including a relation connecting the masses of the mass-shedding (Kepler) and static configurations.

The softening of the EoS by the PT at higher densities, i. e. after merging, leads to a characteristic increase of the dominant postmerger GW frequency f_peak relative to the tidal deformability Lambda inferred during the premerger inspiral phase.
