DAYENU: A Simple Filter of Smooth Foregrounds for Intensity Mapping Power Spectra

2 code implementations23 Apr 2020 Aaron Ewall-Wice, Nicholas Kern, Joshua S. Dillon, Adrian Liu, Aaron Parsons, Saurabh Singh, Adam Lanman, Paul La Plante, Nicolas Fagnoni, Eloy de Lera Acedo, David R. DeBoer, Chuneeta Nunhokee, Philip Bull, Tzu-Ching Chang, T. Joseph Lazio, James Aguirre, Sean Weinberg

We introduce DAYENU, a linear, spectral filter for HI intensity mapping that achieves the desirable foreground mitigation and error minimization properties of inverse co-variance weighting with minimal modeling of the underlying data.

The key challenge in the observation of the redshifted 21-cm signal from cosmic reionization is its separation from the much brighter foreground emission.

Identifying Reionization Sources from 21cm Maps using Convolutional Neural Networks

no code implementations9 Jul 2018 Sultan Hassan, Adrian Liu, Saul Kohn, Paul La Plante

We create a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) that is efficiently able to distinguish between 21cm maps that are produced by AGN versus galaxies scenarios with an accuracy of 92-100%, depending on redshift and neutral fraction range.

Deep learning from 21-cm images of the Cosmic Dawn

2 code implementations7 May 2018 Nicolas Gillet, Andrei Mesinger, Bradley Greig, Adrian Liu, Graziano Ucci

The 21-cm power spectrum (PS) has been shown to be a powerful discriminant of reionization and cosmic dawn astrophysical parameters.
